Is cream cheese keto friendly?

When it comes to homemade meals like grandma made, like a regular cheesecake or even a bagel topped with cream cheese – the answer is no. But that has nothing to do with the cream cheese. It has everything to do with the sugar content found in the cheesecake, plus all of the empty carbs found in the bagel.

With only 0.8 grams of carbs and 5 grams of fat per tablespoon of cream cheese, it ranks high on the list of dairy products that easily fit into a low carb diet. With less than 1 gram of protein per serving, you don’t have to worry about these fat bombs adding too much protein to your moderate protein keto diet either.

This is exactly why you’ll find so many delicious creamy options in the keto community. Most keto cream cheese recipes have a low amount of carbs, but make great desserts and fat bombs that are decadent and filling.

Health Benefits of Cream Cheese

Beyond the low carb counts and fat content that helps with weight loss, cream cheese is a great addition to your list of keto ingredients since it comes with several health benefits.

Not only do you need enough healthy fats to help your body transition into ketosis, but you also need fat to help your body absorb fat soluble vitamins. These include vitamin A, D, E and K. Whenever you eat veggies, adding fat helps your body get these important vitamins. It almost seems as though dipping low-carb vegetables in cream cheese isn’t only delicious – it’s necessary for better health too!

Cream cheese is also high in vitamin A, which is important for a healthy immune system and improved eyesight. It contains antioxidants that protect your body from free radicals.

If you struggle with lactose intolerance, the good news is cream cheese is a cheese product that’s low in lactose. Even if you have trouble tolerating other dairy products like cheddar cheese, sour cream, or heavy cream, you may be able to get away with a small amount of cream cheese without a problem.

Everything Bagel Balls – An Easy Keto Fat Bomb Recipe

Now that I’ve sold you on all of the benefits of adding this versatile ingredient to a high fat diet, a great way to sneak more cream cheese in is with simple keto fat bombs recipes.

If you miss bagels on keto, everything bagel balls are a good option when it comes to getting a taste of the bagels you miss – all while having weight loss benefits keto dieters enjoy.

You can add this recipe to your list of simple 5 ingredient keto recipes. I’ll bet you even have most of the ingredients on hand since they’re common with a low carb lifestyle.

Here’s what you need to make these fat bombs: cream cheese, butter, coconut oil, vanilla extract and everything bagel seasoning.

How to Make Everything Bagel Balls

Before you begin, set the cream cheese and butter out so it has time to come to room temperature. These ingredients can be too difficult to work with directly from the fridge. Don’t worry about leaving them sit on the counter too long. I live in Arizona and leave my butter on the counter all day long, and I’ve never had a problem.

Once the main ingredients have had time to soften, line a mini muffin pan with mini muffin liners. If you don’t typically use these for fat bombs, this recipe should also work with silicon cupcake pans as well. A third alternative is you can line a baking sheet with parchment paper and form the mixture into balls.

After you have the pan option chosen, combine the cream cheese and butter together in a mixing bowl with a hand mixer. Beat on a medium speed until the mixture is light and fluffy.

Once combined, add in the vanilla extract, everything bagel seasoning and melted coconut oil. Mix until all of the ingredients are well combined. Then spoon the mixture into the lined mini cupcake tray in 1 tablespoon increments. This is a good serving size
when it comes to most fat bomb recipes.

Place the cheeseballs in the freezer until firm. This typically takes 20 – 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can allow them to harden in the fridge. This method could take up to 2-3 hours.

Store the everything bagel balls in an airtight container or a ziploc bag. Keep them in the fridge for up to a week. If it takes you longer to go through the batch, you can store these in the freezer and pull a few out at a time.
