What Is Megan's Law? Nicki Minaj And Megan Thee Stallion Drama Explained (2024)

On January 26, 2024, Megan Thee Stallion released her song "Hiss," and it instantly sent the internet into a frenzy – including Nicki Minaj.

Megan’s latest bop opens with a fierce and explicit monologue that addresses the scrutiny she's faced from the public for years. “I just wanna kick this sh*t off by sayin': f*ck y'all / I ain't gotta clear my name on a motherf*ckin' thing / Every time I get mentioned,” she raps.

Megan also bravely calls out Tory Lanez, who is serving 10 years in prison for a violent incident involving both parties in 2020. In July of that same year, Lanez allegedly lashed out at Megan Thee Stallion over her critique of his rapping abilities. He shot her in the foot as she walked away from the car they both rode in.

The triple-Grammy award winner also dropped some big names, including Mariah Carey, Kris Jenner, Tina Snow, R. Kelly, and the Teflon Don. But what really shook the audience was this line: "These hoes don't be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan's Law."

What Is Megan’s Law?

Megan's Law is a big deal. It’s the term for a federal law that requires enforcement to notify the public about convicted sex offenders residing in their communities. It was named in memory of a 7-year-old girl named Megan Kanka. In 1994, Kanka was abducted, sexually assaulted, and murdered by a convicted sex offender who lived across the street from her home in Hamilton Township, New Jersey. Had the law been in place back then, Kanka’s family would have been aware of the dangers in their neighborhood.

At the federal level, Megan's Law requires convicted sex offenders against children to notify local law enforcement of any change of address or employment. Some states also legislate registration for all sex crimes, including ones where no minors were involved.

What Does Megan’s Law Have To Do with Nicki Minaj?

Why did this specific mention cause Nicki to go off on social media? Well, the "Anaconda" rapper's husband of five years, Kenneth (Kenny) Petty, is a registered sex offender. In 1995, the disgraced husband attempted to rape a 16-year-old girl and reportedly violated his probation in 2020 for failing to register as a sex offender in California.

Additionally, Nicki's brother, Jelani Maraj, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl at his home in Long Island. He was convicted of predatory sexual assault and child endangerment in 2017. So, while Megan didn’t even say her name in “Hiss,” you can probably see how “Megan’s Law” hit too close to home for the “Super Bass” rapper.

Nicki Minaj and the Barbz Respond

Nicki has seemingly hit back at Megan, calling her a “bullet fragment foot b*tch,” according to viewers who were present on her Instagram live this week.

Nicki took to X (formerly Twitter) and claimed that her song "Big Foot" (which appears to be a diss toward Megan) was ready for two days but waited to release it so that Megan could "get her lil streams."

"But I remember how everyone kept my name in their mouth & how I said the next person mention my family gon regret it," she added.

A part in the song that references Megan has gone viral on social media: "Bad b*tch she like six foot / I call her big foot / The b*tch fell off / I said get up on your good foot." These lyrics are currently getting slammed for the Dr. Suess-like rhymes.Megan's fans are also unhappy with how Nicki is making fun of a woman's traumatic experience.

The rapper’s fandom – “the Barbz” – attacked the content creators who critiqued Nicki, including one large creator on TikTok @belatown, who was doxxed by crazed fans.

Users on X also claim that the Barbz are attempting to desecrate Megan’s mother’s grave. @LeneairTara wrote on the platform, “So the Barbs have found where Meg mom's grave is and told others to go desecrate that lady grave. This is beyond disgusting and now it's time to fully cancel that woman and her cult.”

So far, things aren't looking good for the "Queen of Rap!" According to the Daily Times, Megan Thee Stallion has gained over 100,000 followers since the alleged feud, while Nicki Minaj has lost over 30,000.
